Here we are again with a new WrapUp.
- Facebook might be interested in Whatsapp. According to the latest rumors Zuck could buy himself a new messaging app with a very big user base to expand the company efforts in the mobile space. Starting to be concerned about the privacy of your Whatsapp messages? If the deal is real, you should!
- Patent Wars go on and on.. and on. First up is the statement by Eric Schmidt that it's "extremely curious that Apple has chosen to sue Google's partners and not Google itself." Meanwhile one of the most discussed Apple patents related to multi-touch has been invalidate by USPTO, Apple vs. Samsung rages on and the latest rumors say that Apple and Google could bid together to get about a thousand patents from the Kodak portfolio. The plot is becoming so thick it could be the base of a new soap opera! (See my post about that)
- Google on release mode. During the week the search giant released a YouTube redesign that bring the product even closer to Google+. Google+ itself got a new feature in the form of communities while the Google-owned Snapseed app was made available for Android. If this is not enough add that someone found pointers in the Chromium project that Google Now could be coming to Chrome.
- New Surface devices planned for Microsoft in 2013. Microsoft allegedly started their Surface program to push hardware manufacturers to do better and it seems that it will not be a one time thing but it will become something like the Google Nexus program. Three new devices could be in the works for 2013: a Tegra 8.6" RT2, a 11.6" AMD Tamesh Pro2 and a 14.6" SurfaceBook with Intel Haswell.
- Intel to build ARM SoC for Apple. As usual rumors come and go fast and, if last month we talked about Apple ditching chipzilla, this week seems that Intel could start producing ARM chips for Cupertino. This could make some sense in light of the statements that Intel would start some foundry business to use all their fabs capacity but production of ARM chips seems a bit far fetched because Intel has probably plans to kill ARM with their x86 offering.
- Intel has no plans to solder chips. After last week rumors AMD stated that they have no plans to solder their high end chips to motherboards so Intel felt necessary to step up and confirm that the rumors were just rumors and they will continue to offer socketed chips too for the foreseeable future.
